![]() Christmas, a happy time, turned sad as we mourn the loss of Dorothy Lee Corley (December 15, 1929 ~ December 4, 2012). A woman much loved who was affectionately called by many names -- Mom (and not just by her sons), Grandma, GG (for Great Grandma), Girlie, Dot, Dottie -- Dorothy Lee Corley was a life interwoven with others and will be dearly missed. Born and raised in Washington, DC, in 1929, Mrs. Corley grew up as Dorothy Hendley in Anacostia, marrying John A. Corley in 1947. She worked at Adams & Burch Co. as a Bookkeeper until her husband and she established Corley Roofing Co. in 1959. While raising two boys and then later caring for her nephew Mark and his sister Tracy, she spent her days (and nights!) answering phones, handling the accounting, and typing contracts. After the death of her husband John in 1984, Mrs. Corley continued to provide all the office support for Corley Roofing and assisted in the caregiving responsibilities of her grandchildren while her sons handled the roofing projects. As third generation Corleys entered the business -- granddaughters working in the office and grandsons working on roofs -- Mrs. Corley continued to assist in the office and engage with customers on the phone even while watching her great granddaughter. John and Dorothy always had an open door to family and extended family (who were first and foremost), friends, and employees, offering a comfortable and safe shelter for those that needed it. Dorothy is survived by her two sons Rick (and wife Karen) and John (and wife Terri); grandchildren Rick (and wife Karen), Mark (and wife Pradthana), Lisa, Lynda, and John; great grandchildren Brianna and Griffin; and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws that are too numerous to name but with whom she had special relationships.
